There are a number of inspiring stories of people starting something great, but what makes a story memorable is actually the finish. Despite the start, nothing can overshadow a great beginning like a disastrous end, because it's the finish people pay attention to. The world needs more strong finishers, and once again, Jesus shows us the way.
Relinquishing control within a group that is not unified is the last thing most people want to do. We'd all rather solve any problems ourselves. But like often times with God, He will make incredible things happen towards restoration when we follow through with the tough stuff - like asking for help.
People often compartmentalize their relationship with God by setting aside just part of a day to spend with Him; leaving Him out of the rest of their week as they have fun or enjoy hobbies. On the other end of the spectrum, some will abandon things they love, fearing somehow they won't be pleasing to God. The truth is that He wants to be at the heart of each and every moment of our life.
The heart behind being responsible is good, but as genuine as our motives may be, we have a tendency to take responsibility for things only God can accomplish. When we heap this weight on our shoulders, things get complicated quickly. When we learn to step out of His shoes, the joy of simplicity will soon follow.
